1 thessalonians 5 1 6.
And they shall not escape.
Which professors of religion too much are, when they indulge themselves in carnal lusts and pleasures, and are careless and thoughtless about the coming of the day of the lord;
So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.
Therefore let us not sleep as do others.
A sleep of the spiritual faculties, which renders one insensible to danger, is meant.
2 you know very well that the day of the lord will come like a thief in the night.
3 for when they shall say, peace and safety;
As we pray to our god and father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have….
As labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
To be alert, in one’s sober senses (νήφειν), is more than to be merely awake.
Then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child;
And may your entire being—spirit, soul, and body—be kept completely flawless in the appearing of our lord jesus, the anointed one.
Since christians are of the day, they should be wide awake.
